Message from the President
As the Holiday Season approaches, I would like to share some year-end thoughts with you.
The past year has been another of continued growth, change, and challenge for Wal-Mart. We’ve just finished opening our fifteenth and sixteenth new Wal-Mart stores in Pocohontas, Arkansas and Wagoner, Oklahoma. We have yet to open the three big ones – Springfield, Missouri, Festus, Missouri and Pittsburg, Kansas, all of which will open in year 1973. All this in addition to rebuilding Morrilton, Jonesboro and Berryville; expanding Salem and Marshfield; relocating Mountain Home; and reopening the beautiful new 56,000 square foot store No. 1 in Rogers.
We have tried new concepts in store design, advertising, and merchandising. We have met the challenge of the computer age with our new IBM 370 computer system. We’ve had an excellent record of sales and earnings for the first nine months, and the last quarter looks very favorable at this point.
All these accomplishments would never have taken place without YOU – the Wal-Mart men and women who make up our great Company. You each, individually, are Wal-Mart – YOU are the one vital element without which none of this could have taken place.
Year-round I am filled with a deep sense of warmth and appreciation when I think of your efforts on behalf of our Company.
I cannot be proud of Wal-Mart without first being proud of each of my friends in every one of the stores, the distribution center, and the home office who work year long with dedication to make Wal-Mart go.
I would like to thank each of you for the contribution you have made in making Wal-Mart the success it is.
I’m glad to have this opportunity to personally wish you a very Merry Christmas and a New Year of peace, health and happiness.
